Export of Alligator hides and products out of the United States are regulated through the “Convention on Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora” (CITIES). Due to modeled “Sustainable Use Programs,” the American Alligator is no longer an endangered species. All legally harvested Alligator skins and hides are considered to be the bi-product of the meat and seafood industry.
Genuine American Alligators are native to all the Gulf States and the Southeastern U.S. Alligators are both Farm Raised and Wild Caught. All aspects of regulations and monitoring are done by each state's Wildlife Authority. Genuine American Alligators are listed under Appendix II of the “Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species,” (CITIES). Meaning that International Trade in the species (including parts and derivatives) are regulated.
Finished Genuine American Alligator Leathers are used primarily for handbags, footwear, belts, wallets, garments and many other select leather goods, including luggage, motorcycle seats, home and automotive upholstery.
